great tip.

Have you consider building up a mailing list at your landing page instead of letting the visitors go.

2 Things I think you may want to add/clarify.

A) You trademark terms. You copyright works.

Ex.: Yahoo is a trademark. The content on Yahoo is copyrighted.

Who cares?

--> You can scrape trademarks and refer to them so long as you aren't using them/diluting their value. Trademarks protect the goodwill associated with a mark (legal jargon), or the brand positioning associated with a mark (marketing speak). You can write Yahoo or Ask or Google in your text (referring to their trademarks without pretending to be them/diluting their value).

Copyrighted content you can't reproduce. Scrape and repost is probably copyright violation, even if you're citing the source. Because copyright protects the right to reproduce the content. Now, there is fair use, but that's another story.

Is that clearer?

NOTE: NONE OF THIS IS LEGAL ADVICE, JUST INFO FROM A NEWBIE TAKING A CLASS ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. IF YOU NEED LEGAL ADVICE, SPEAK TO A MEMBER OF YOUR LOCAL BAR ASSOCIATION.

B) The other thing I wanted to clarify is that a lot of people are doing SEO without PPC, with the result that they're ranking for terms that have either very little traffic or very poor conversion. Not a situation you want to get into. The only time I'll accept not to do PPC first is where a client explicitly says no, or where I can rank without much effort.

I used to work for a comapany that "owned 5 different companies in the niche". They actually got ratted on by a competitor, and Google checked the IP adresses of the webhosts for all sites... and they were the same. So google tied the accounts, and they could only rank one of the sites for each keyword. Ouch!

The company learnt their lesson, and started three other companies that were on different IP adresses :)

In addition, they ran two "review sites", that Google allows to rank for the same keywords, even if they are on the same Google master account.

Take this how you may :)

Damn good post. This is pretty much exactly what I've been doing for my own product sites.

And the best way of doing this is to bid on the same keywords you rank highly for and send ppc traffic to a 'review' site. Having traffic sent to your main site through a 'neutral review' site greatly boosts sales. I can actually say I've doubled product sales in the past by simply buying PPC traffic for keywords I already rank in the top three for :D
