  • Script Footprinting: Make your Submitting Easier

    Add to Mixx!

Yeah, the catchy title mentions “submitting” but really, this is good for anything. Link Spamming, Directory Submission, super fast auto submissions, you name it.

This is another basic technique that’s always overlooked. Let’s say you’re submitting your site to a directory. Take a look at the content especially at the bottom. What phrases look like they belong on a template, not customized? Fire off a search in Google, and watch the results come back. It’s a gold mine. I’ll break this down into an example.
    Example 1: Directory Script A
    URL: http://www.toughmarketing.com
    Possible Footprints:

    • “Powered by: OpenLD” -Note: “Powered By” is a restricted Google phrase that will limit the number of results you get, so you want more than just this fingerprint.
    • “Submit a Link” - This is too common to be a real fingerprint. Many scripts use this phrase
    • “Suggest a Category” - This, like the above fingerprint
    • submit_category.php - This script name might be common, but it’s still a decent footprint with a little modification

    Selecting our Footprint
Since we have less than optimal footprints on this script, we’re going to combine them into a bunch of different phrases, dodging the “Powered By” phrase.

    1. “Suggest a Category” “by openld” - 9500 results
    2. “Submit a Link” “by openld” - 9630 results
    3. “Suggest a Category” openld - 9910 results
    4. “Submit a Link” openld - 10100 results
    5. inurl:suggest_category.php description category - 219 results
    6. inurl:suggest_category.php description category title - 58 results
    7. inurl:suggest_category.php description category captcha - 15 results
    8. inurl:suggest_category.php description category -captcha - 198 results
    9. inurl:suggest_category.php description category openld - 31 results
    10. inurl:suggest_category.php description category title openld - 26 results
    11. inurl:suggest_category.php description category captcha openld - 9 results
    12. inurl:suggest_category.php description category -captcha openld - 22 results

Even though the first two seem to duplicate the last two, Google will frequently rank different sites for that small phrase difference. Also, the first two are probably more accurate (3 and 4 may bring up blogs on the topic)

Now, finding ones without captchas, and combining it with our Sign-Up Automator is a dangerous bit of knowledge indeed.

Funny thing about footprints. I started reading your site about a week ago. And then I had to do a reinstall. And unfortunately lost your link. To find your link, I remembered you had a “No footprints” footprint and found your site rather quickly. Isn’t that interesting? See how much you have taught me? Needless to say I’ll never lose your url again. Thanks and great great site. I’ve read others but you write in a unique voice.
