  • Yet Another New Years Resolution Post

    Add to Mixx!

As I sit here in a friend’s apartment, trapped by the vile cascade of snow that has so plagued southeastern Michigan, unable to access more than one web page at a time reliably( <3 stolen wifi ), I decided that I would do a new years post. Because really, I’m sourceless, statsless, mySQL-less, and scriptless. So hey! This is my list of new years resolution. I don’t especially know what charge y’all could get from this, but whatever.

    SEO/Blogging Related Resolutions

    1. I will try and expand to make PPC income a larger part of my business. Right now, it’s where I throw my junk traffic, but it has more promise than that. Note: This is not adsense.
    2. I will try to read my e-mails at least once a day, and get back to everyone. I’m absolutely terrible at this.
    3. I will gradually move the blog back to every-other day posts; for the sake of material level and time.
    4. I will expand the social news sites I promote to: PlugIM, here I come!
    5. I will finish the complete automation of my blackhat setup.
    6. I will learn advanced whitehat techniques. They do exist, and by God I’m going to find them.
    7. I will attend at least one SEO conference. If anyone here has experience with those, hit me up with some suggestions. Keep in mind that if it’s in the US, and has a theme of alcohol/bars, I’m a no-go due to age.
    8. I will triple my income by February(Yeah, I know how to)
    9. I will finally get around to renovating this blog.
    10. I will set aside more money, so I don’t have to scramble for taxes. In addition, I will create myself an LLC, so I don’t get taxed out the arse.

    General Life Resolutions

    1. I will make more time for school.
    2. I will finish watching Season 3 of Weeds.
    3. I will eat no more than 1 pizza per week. (I do love my pizza, and I really deserve to be fat, even if I am still a slender figure of manhood)
    4. I will take up Martial Arts again.
    5. I will quit smoking [cigarettes]. Starting next week.

Quit cigarettes and pizza? You must be mad. :)

    2. James Dunn says:

I love no. 8. Good for you if you can do it. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how I could do that, maybe by June would be more feasible for me.

As for advanced white hat techniques, I’d say go with exact match domain names, 301 redirects, and buying old domains. Those are probably some of the most powerful techniques that are working now.

    3. admin says:

      @James:
Thanks! I’m familiar with a few of those, especially old domains. What I need to especially work on is getting non-traditional links (non blog comment/directory/social news) and the like. Open solicitation is out, but I know there’s still ways out there. I’m especially looking into press releases, article aggregation, etc. We’ll see what comes up though!

And I’m pretty confident in #8. My software update is working incredibly well. 3 test domains. Each started out low(but I hardly promoted them), with 8 pages each indexed. Doubling every single day so far though, and ranking higher than anything I’ve seen so far with fewer(and shitty) backlinks. Oh yes, and time from initial link drop to indexing was a whopping 20 hours for all 3. We’ll see how #8 goes!

I’ve done press releases and the article syndication thing. I didn’t get amazing results. PR was a total waste of time, I have like 2 backlinks showing from that. The article syndication works best if you get onto a big site that doesn’t accept everyone. If you do a mass syndication it still works for less competitive stuff. I have an account at articlemarketer.com if you want me to syndicate an article for you to try out.

    5. Chris Estes says:

I must be a glutton for punishment as I read most of the new years promises post on everyones blogs. But yours is by far the funniest yet.

Good luck with your resolutions. Pizza will be one of the hardest to give up when you cram yourself behind a computer screen all day. Maybe you can pickup some fast food after martial arts.

    6. hansolo says:

Wellll, now we know how young you are, you whippersnapper.

Let me tell you right now, though: it’s a whole hell of a lot easier being thin when you’re that young. If you do indeed enjoy pizza that much, by the time you’re in your 30’s you should see a fair amount of weight gain. Just a friendly warning….

    7. admin says:

@Chris Estes: Don’t give me any ideas!
@James: Thanks for the offer and experience, I’ll try and get ahold of you soon as I have a spare moment.
@hansolo:Heh yeah, this is what I’ve heard, and why I’m going to deal with it now.
      ..hopefully…

    8. Mary says:

love the resolution’s some are quite funny i would say the cigarettes one will be the hardest! always is, especially when sitting infront of a computer all day…

      i have 1 resolution:
get out and enjoy life a little more

i think it is totally achievable by finally getting my WH projects to run on autopilot as this is what takes up 90% of my time currently

    9. admin says:

      Amen.
It’s too easy go get wrapped up in making the money, and forget about the “enjoying it” part.

    10. Site Indexed says:

I see you want to expand your PPC earnings. I actually changed my focus since PPC fluctuates so much. Now I’m more into CPA (affiliate programs) and making much more money than PPC.

Think about it this way. You have a webhosting related site someone clicks on your google ad you get 30 cents. On the same site you have a hosting ad someone signs up you get $80. That’s a hell of a lot of google clicks to compete. Of course hosting is one of the highest paying niches in CPA but you get the idea. Your clicks don’t fluctuate as much and you don’t have to worry as much about getting banned because of some click happy visitor.

    11. admin says:

Yeah, I definitely agree with you to an extent. But having to sign up for each affiliate program individually combats my efforts to automate everything. It makes expansion a lot more difficult. I don’t plan on abandoning it, but I need to spread out.

    12. m0nkeymafia says:

I’ve been tryin to quit smokin for 3 months… its so hard!

Also yeah v easy to keep weight off when your young, my best advice is to excercise so much now [i.e. martial arts] that your metabolism will still be high[sh] when your older.. its worked for me

    13. Rafael says:

      Hey,

XML, I don’t know if you mind saying this, but how old are you?
I’m 20 and I’ve noticed that a lot of people I’ve seen online who have successful websites, and extremely popular forums etc etc are aged 19,20,21.

      So just wondering.

    14. admin says:

      Hey Rafael,
      I’m 19 :-) 20 in not too much longer.

And it’s true, I meet more people my own age than I ever would’ve thought I would. Probably just because we grew up with the internet, and have a relatively innate understanding of it.
